7 Ways Capcom Can Make Resident Evil 7 A Success

1. Make The Horror Paramount

Things stop being scary the moment your character has an arsenal of big, powerful guns and stashes of ammunition. One of the biggest upsets with later titles was that ammunition and resources could be found in abundance, even the cultists residing in that remote castle in Resident Evil 4 left you hand grenades and medical-grade first aid sprays upon their demise - it needs to stop. Knowing that you can go to battle with the undead with a mobile-armoury and lay waste to them without so much receiving a scratch -surely a more realistic method of obtaining ammunition and resources can easily be researched? - it should not come so heavily from the bodies of the monsters you have put to rest. But what is scarier than be faced with hordes of the undead and bizarre results of genetic experimentation? The unknown of how to defend yourself. The fantastically-crafted environments complete with their own brooding atmospheres give a sense of helplessness. This needs to be played to a greater extent in the next instalment as true horror does not need to come from surprising jump-scares or the physical appearances of the enemies you face. The next game should be purely about surviving a zombie apocalypse and shouldn't give in to holding your hand with generous supplies or routine assistance. No military intervention, no recurring allies who will save you from your predicaments. Just you as the player, alone against the unveiling monstrosities that threaten your very survival. What are your expectations for the next instalment of Resident Evil? Should it be rebooted to return its former glory or continued on with its new emphasis on Hollywood action set-pieces and lack of true survival horror? Let us know in the comments below!
