7 Ways Capcom Can Make Resident Evil 7 A Success

2. Re-Establish The Story

Let's face it, the overall plot of the series and subsequent plot lines has become very convoluted and easy to lose track of. To better engage a new era of gamers and to still accommodate the die-hard fans of the series, a fresh rewrite on an already compelling plot can weed out some of the dead weight and give an alternative take. It is definitely viable to keep some of the more established stories in the forefront - still having the Umbrella Corporation as the catalyst for setting events in motion and character motives for example - but instead of over-exemplifying every plot element and an insatiable need to dramatise any developments, the series should return to telling the bulk of backstory through scattered documents, kept journals of the deceased and most importantly; through ambience of the world. Make the players want to discover and seek out little fragments of knowledge which can elaborate further on the bigger picture. Giving an air of mystery and a controlled confusion as to what is going on can only add to the horror dynamic and amplify the unknown. The story can begin to slowly unravel over the course of the game with never giving too much away leaving room for interpretation. Downplaying a lot of transpiring events can give greater impact once a climactic revelation rears its head, as its no secret that Resident Evil relishes in plot twists.
