7 World War I Video Games You Should Definitely Play
6. Castlevania: Bloodlines
A surprising component of a list about World War One games, Castlevania: Bloodlines sees John Morris and Eric Lecarde battle against vampire lord Dracula's resurrection by evildoer Elizabeth Bartley. Not too Great War-centric, until it's discovered that Franz Ferdinand's death was actually the result of Bartley's doings of evil in order to control the mass outpouring of souls from the war's casualties.
The game itself is not focused upon the war, but the backdrop offers a unique supernatural twist on the formula. The gameplay is fun Castlevania fare, although Eric's lance is a great new addition to the usual whip-retreat-whip-jump malarkey. The setting of 1917, three years into the global conflict gives a new and mostly unheard of story placement, allowing the developers the freedom to use the war as the background setting for the gameplay without touching upon it significantly.
Other Castlevania titles like Symphony of the Night are obviously better received, but Bloodlines is a welcome addition to the series as a whole, and is able to stand strong as a World War One based game despite the fact that the war is not the main focus of the story.
