7 World War I Video Games You Should Definitely Play
5. 11-11: Memories Retold
Easily the most visually interesting title on this list and one of the more vibrant games about warfare out there, Memories Retold follows a Canadian photographer enlisted to fight as well as a German engineer on the Western Front. Though it's a touching story told from both sides of the conflict, with development assisted by Aardman, the visuals are one of the main draws of the game.
Looking almost like an animated watercolour painting, Memories Retold is beautiful in its presentation, with colours bleeding beautifully against each other either in Harry's photography shop or in the dark tunnels Kurt travels through. The feels run high as well, which are only heightened by the gorgeous colour palette, as both Kurt and Harry try to figure out their place in the conflict and what they want to be by its end.
It's not revolutionary gameplay-wise; if you find yourself struggling in one of its many puzzles you may have to revoke your gamer card. But what Memories excels at is its visual splendour and emotive storytelling. It's perhaps one of the stronger heart tugs in games about warfare, second only to one other game by this same director.
