8 "Awesome" Video Game Mechanics We All HATED

1. The Renbu System - Dynasty Warriors 6

So imagine you're in the headquarters of Koei Tecmo and all of a sudden one of the devs of the Dynasty Warriors franchise bursts through the door. They're all sweaty and panting nervously, a look of sheer unadulterated excitement in their eyes and as they shakily stagger towards you they whisper feverishly in your ear.

"but what if we did infinite combos?"

Now that might not mean much to an outsider but to a DW fan or as we call ourselves Muso-mmeliers (for we drink the Muso like fine wine) this concept is enough to make my Dong Zhou turn into Dong Woah. Infinite combos in a game about pushing beatdowns like a drug dealer is pretty much the actual dream, so many, myself included were hyped to the Xtreme Legends when the "Renbu System" was announced for Dynasty Warriors 6.

However, this soon became possibly the most hated mechanic in the entire series thanks to its implementation, which saw nearly every character share a base moveset that had to hit a certain hit chain to unlock new and more exciting moves. This, when coupled with the fact that enemies only appeared in small clumps often meant that you'd be using basic strikes for far longer than our patience would tolerate, thus turning what were once warriors of legend into Sunday Leage dads after a few pints of go-go juice aka a burpy mess of piss weak punches.
