In life, it's always good to know that someone has your back. Whether it's long-term friends, or supportive work colleagues or your family and loved ones, knowing that you've got that safety net to fall back on in tough times is a truly comforting thing.

And trust me, when you're taking on dragons the size of a skyscraper or battling the hordes of undead, you'll be glad to know the same can be said of some video game companions, who truly do give their all in trying to keep you going even when the odds aren't in your favor.

Yet some video games go one step further, providing either loyalty missions, companion quests, or side content dedicated to these awesome aides and as such prove that the only thing better than true friendship, is a true friendship that ends up leading you to a Mace +2 Of Smiting.

So let's take a look at the times we went out of our way to be there for a friend and ended up with a video game bonus to boot.

8. Full Powered Masamune - Chrono Trigger

If there's one thing that Chrono Trigger has in spades, it's party members. While not approaching Suikoden levels of insanity, there's more friendly faces here than you remember on your first run through the game, however, there's one companion you're sure to remember and that's Frog!

Mainly because he's a frog.

But also because he's incredibly cool and can also wield a legitimate weapon of legend, The Masamune.

Now in its base form The Masamune isn't anything to be sniffed at, and upon collecting all the pieces, reforging the sword, and giving it to Frog, you might assume that your job is done and go on your merry time-traveling way. However, what some players don't realize is that you can power up this beast of a sword through some timey-wimey shenanigans!

The Masamune II is unlocked by helping a smith find his tools which he's misplaced, leading to you hopping through time to find their location and then returning them to their rightful owner, he'll then unlock a new area on your map to explore that will lead you to a grave. This grave empowers the blade with otherworldy might and my lord is this trek worth it!

Rocking a base attack power of 200 and a stat increase of 111, Frog won't be even slightly tempted by other weapons as this really is the be-all, and for enemies, their end-all.
