8 Amazing Soundtrack Moments In Video Games
3. Aerosmith's 'I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing' - Saints Row 4
Perhaps the best use of licensed music in a video game in recent memory, this is a perfect example of how soundtracks establish the tone for any game they appear in. Saints Row is a franchise that is most successful when it acts as a parody to all things Grand Theft Auto, and you can't find a better instance than the arguments of the player character's head honcho scaling the side of an ICBM at the start of Saints Row 4.
Whilst button prompts appear telling you to rip out essential cables from said missile, the boss’ phone lights up with the famous faces of the Saints gang pleading with the boss to abandon his mission, resulting in Kinzie eulogising the boss noble attitude and explaining how impactful your choice your choice has been.
It is roughly at this point you probably noticed that this scene is being sent-up by the inclusion of Steven Tyler screaming out ‘I don’t wanna close my eyes’, and you realise just how ridiculous Saints Row 4 is going to be. It might not be the first instance that the Saints have resorted to licensed music to convey their emotions, but the inclusion of Bonnie Tyler’s ‘I Need a Hero’ just doesn’t quite beat out the opening to the last main entry in the franchise. Stupid? Yes. Brilliant? Absolutely.
