One of the biggest mysteries in Gravity Rush pertains to the question of protagonist Kat's origin. Amnesia plagues her the moment you boot up the first game meaning Kat has no idea who she is, where she comes from, or why a strange space cat follows her around.

Not until the ending of Gravity Rush 2 do players finally discover the answers teased in the first game. This final chapter is accessed by soaring to the peak of the world pillar and once there, a snowy, almost storybook environment is presented to the player.

It's revealed to the player that over a hundred years ago, Kat was actually the queen of this city called Eto and to her people, she is known as Queen Alua. Alua, for various reasons, was unhappy with her life as queen remained to help the people of the world. So, when an entity known as The Darkness threatened Alua's world, she attempted to evacuate those living outside of Eto and bring them to the city for protection. Naturally, many were opposed to this - so much so her own senate chancellor attempted to kill her by pushing her off Eto.

The chancellor succeeds, leading Alua to fall off Eto, hurtling down to the surface below. When she wakes up, she finds herself in the slums of Hekseville with no memory of her life in Eto and this is where Gravity Rush 1 begins.
