8 Beloved Video Game Levels That Have Aged Terribly

7. The Chasm - Doom II

Crash Bandicoot The High Road
iD Software

Once upon a time, getting through Doom II's hellish The Chasm was a badge of honour for young players, to navigate a series of wafer-thin walkways while dealing with the inevitable wave of hellspawn vomited their way.

To time-rich young'uns back in the day that might've represented an inviting challenge, but to time-stretched adults revisiting Doom II today? Not so much.

To be blunt, this level sucks - it's less a case of iD Software throwing the gauntlet down at players' feet than repeatedly slapping them across the face with it.

As enticing as the level's verticality could've been, the mind-boggling nimbleness and sheer savant-tier plate-spinning required of the player transpires into genuine bulls**t territory.

And so, this is at once a provocative and creatively designed map and one that doesn't vibe at all with the palette of most modern gamers.
