8 Best Video Game Sequels (That Weren't Actually Sequels)

3. Maximo: Ghosts To Glory - Ghosts N' Goblins

Asuras Wrath
Capcom

Oh Ghosts N' Goblins, just when I thought I was able to finally break free of the vice grip you have on my heart, you punched through my ribcage with the almighty return to form that was Ghosts N' Goblins Ressurection.

Seriously if you've not played this title, please I urge you to do so as it's 2D platforming bliss.

Just maybe don't do it if you have a weak heart or high blood pressure as you'll be a fizzing mess by the end of things.

Despite its rampant popularity, however, Capcom didn't seem that keen on pumping out sequels for Ghosts N' Goblins, going years and years between entries, and even growing so bored of keeping things 2D that they actually released a 3D spiritual sequel called Maximo: Ghosts To Glory on the PS2.

And it was utterly brilliant!

Seriously the art design, the difficulty, and the tone of the game were just utter chef kiss, as was the fact that despite not being officially related to Ghost's N' Goblins, Capcom wasn't afraid to reference Maximo's inspiration.

When Maximo gets damaged he'll pop out of his armor and show off his boxer shorts, and in the game's opening level they even play a revised version of Ghosts N' Goblin's classic theme. What a corker of a game, and the sequel is even better!
