Since their release, the PS5 and Xbox Series X have gifted the gaming world with a myriad of magnificent titles, such as Jedi Fallen Order, Final Fantasy XVI, and Elden Ring. With Starfield, Elder Scrolls VI, and Spider-Man 2 on the horizon, both systems have plenty more to offer.

But while looking into the far future, details of what's to come remains unclear. Gamers hear so many conflicting stories about upcoming sequels, reboots, and prequels, it's hard to know what's true.

More often than not, such rumours are proven to be just that - rumours. Nevertheless, it's hard's not to get excited by what the future might bring. The prospect of Naughty Dog working on a new IP is enough to make anyone's mouth water. After a decade of dormancy, Castlevania could be gearing up for an epic revival. There is so much buzz surrounding a Dead Rising remake, fingers are crossed that it isn't just mere speculation.

Although it's wise to take gossip with an ocean's amount of salt, some rumblings surrounding the PS5 and Xbox Series X's are looking less like uncorroborated conjecture and more like an inevitability.

Assassin's Creed veterans are in for a treat over the next year. The next official instalment, Assassin's Creed Mirage will be returning to to the series roots, since it will focus more on stealth and a linear narrative, rather than blood-spurting violence.

As great as this news is, it's only the tip of the iceberg. Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec will soon be introducing, not just a new game, but a new system called Assassin's Creed Infinity, which promises a whole new way of playing the time-weaving, cathedral-climbing , parkour-leaping saga. Executive producer, Marc-Alexis Cote emphasised Infinity marks a "new design philosophy," letting players share achievements and content, backed up in an interactive hub.

Two games that will make use of Infinity are Assassin's Creed: Red and Assassin's Creed: Hexe. Although it's been confirmed Red is a samurai-based title set in feudal Japan, details are sketchy on the latter.

However, Bloomberg reported Hexe takes place in 16th century Europe, during the witch trials, which led to up to 60,000 people being burned at the stake. If this report is true, Hexe is sure to take the franchise in a much darker direction than normal.

Although Infinity, Red, and Hexe shouldn't be released until 2024, they should be 100% worth the wait.
