8 Bizarre Reasons Video Games Were Pulled From Sale
7. Meme Run
Meme Run, released on the Wii U eShop in 2014, would serve as an embarrassing time capsule of early 2010 internet humour - if it was still available for purchase. Unlike every other WiiU eShop title, Meme Run isn't no longer available to purchase due to the eShop's closure - but rather to a frankly ridiculous case of copyright dispute.
The game, unsurprisingly, released to absolutely garbage reviews, although developer Jordan Schuetz maintains that its terrible gameplay was a design choice, intended to "troll" those dumb enough to purchase it.
This mentality came back to bite Schuetz however, as the game was removed from the eShop as a result of a copyright claim due to their use of the "troll face" meme.
The troll face meme is, apparently, legally owned by artist Carlos Ramirez, who had Meme Run removed as a result of a copyright claim he launched against the developers.
Whether or not he does legally own the rights to the meme is unimportant, as Nintendo clearly didn't want to waste their time defending Meme Run and immediately pulled it. Fortunately, Ramirez's claim undoubtedly saved several edgy teenagers from wasting their money on such a terrible game.
