8 Bizarre Reasons Video Games Were Pulled From Sale

6. Mario Party 8

GTA LIBERTY CITY STORIES

Mario Party is an extremely wholesome, if somewhat infuriating, series of titles released exclusively for Nintendo systems. Mario Party 8, released on the Wii in 2007, mostly continued this trend of wholesomeness - save for one unfortunate line of dialogue that players in the UK took issue with.

Prior to its release, the British version of Mario Party 8 was delayed as a result of a "production issue". Said production issue ended up being the inclusion of a piece of dialogue from the usually loveable Kamek, who says "Magikoopa magic! Turn the train sp*stic! Make this ticket tragic!"

Unfortunately for Nintendo, they didn't realise that "sp*stic" is a slur for disabled folks in the UK, which meant the error wasn't caught by the localisation team prior to Mario Party 8's launch.

Nintendo likely only became aware of the offending issue prior to the game's release due to the PSP game Mind Quiz having to be recalled for the same reason, a month before Mario Party 8's release.

Even though several copies had already been released, the game was recalled and wasn't re-released until August of the same year - alongside a length apology on the behalf of a Nintendo spokesperson.
