8 Bold Predictions For Nintendo At E3 2016

1. The Nintendo NX Will (Unfortunately) Feature Some Sort Of Gimmick

It's the thing that so many Nintendo (and video game fans in general) are fearing, and it's almost certain to come true. Despite the Wii U's game pad (which was touted as paving the way for incredibly interesting and rewarding asymmetrical experiences) being something of a gimmick, it's practically been ignored by third-party developers and Nintendo themselves, used only for displaying maps and inventory systems. For many, this is great, as Nintendo isn't forcing the gimmick in players' faces quite like they were with the Wii's motion controls. It's possible to just sit down and play a Wii U game without any external distractions, and most of the game pad's features are incredibly useful (top marks to you, off-screen play). Unfortunately for fans, even with these features, the Wii U has a total flop. There are probably a lot of reasons for this, including a weak software library at - and immediately following - launch, the ludicrous decision to rename the Wii with one extra letter, and various other strange and baffling marketing decisions. In the end, though, commercial failure forces companies to look back towards what sold and see how that might be applied in the future. So what did sell? Well, a much more tangible gimmick than a controller with a screen, that's what. The Wii's gimmick was instantly visible and understandable, and that's almost certainly what Nintendo will strive for again, despite fans being much happier with a more traditional console experience. Rather than recognize the failure of their marketing, Nintendo probably believes their failure lies in an idea that wasn't €œrevolutionary€ enough. Expect to see a massive NX gimmick this June.
