8 Cancelled Wrestling Video Games

5. UWC

Almost twenty years after WCW was finally put out of its misery, enterprising YouTuber Archon1981 stumbled upon a never-seen-before game based on the expired Atlanta promotion languishing on a dusty 1989 review cartridge.

UWC, developed by Japanese studio Seta, was something of a cross between SEGA's Master System classic Pro Wrestling, and the NES WCW game Nichibitsu actually brought to stores in the same year. The acronym presumably stood for 'Universal Wrestling Corporation' - the name under which WCW was first founded following Ted Turner's takeover of Jim Crockett Promotions in 1988.

Footage of the game suggests it was fairly close to completion before being canned, featuring a full roster including luminaries such as Sting, Ric Flair and The Road Warriors, as well as The Midnight Express, Barry Windham, and someone who we're convinced is Jimmy Garvin.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
