8 Creators Who HATED Their Own Video Games

7. George Fan - Plants Vs. Zombies

Popcap Games

Sometimes a developer comes to hate a project because of how it's perceived. Others hate what the industry itself did to their game. Such was the case for George Fan with Plants Vs. Zombies, as something he had poured his heart into turned into a shambling mass of greed and excess.

Plants Vs. Zombies sold incredibly well upon its release, so much so that PopCap Games began pushing it as their flagship IP, but with this fresh blood in the water, it soon attracted that big ol' shark EA. EA was on a run of snapping up smaller developers to add to its own lineup and soon devoured the franchise, and much like nearly every other game they've got their sweaty paws on, they stuffed it full of microtransactions in order to maximize its long term profitability.

For George Fan, this was not the type of brain-numbing zombie that he'd intended on making, and in an interview with Venture Beat, he stated that EA turned his game into something designed to "hook people" but not in a way that allowed the players to have even a modicum of fun.

EA, seeing these comments decided to do an incredibly EA thing, and fired him. EA crushing the life out of gaming one step at a time.
