8 Dead Video Game Franchises That Should Be Resurrected

4. Legacy Of Kain

Legacy of Kain

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain was released for the Playstation back in 1996. Since then it has spawned 4 sequels, the last of which was released in 2003. Billed as a game for adults with mature themes, an unconventional hero and gameplay that required thought, Blood Omen was an innovative game that was a commercial and critical success. The game was an RPG and had a staggering 50+ hour length, not bad for PlayStation 1. You assume the role of Kain, a nobleman who is killed and becomes a vampire, who sets out to seek revenge against his murderers and a cure for his newfound vampirism. A vast universe, extensive characterisation, strong story, Kain€™s inner monologue and the fun and simple gameplay are just a few reasons why Legacy of Kain was a great game. There is a game being developed by Square Enix and Psyonix Games, called Nosgoth, which is set in the Legacy of Kain universe. The game is due to be revealed any day now, apparently any time after E3, is said to be a PS4 launch title and is to be multiplayer only. There was a single-player campaign in development but was cancelled by Square Enix, due to their estimations that it wouldn€™t meet sales expectations. With that said it€™s unclear if we€™ll ever get another Legacy of Kain game, with a single-player campaign and Kain himself. Based on the estimations that such a game wouldn€™t sell well it€™d not too likely we will, unless of course Nosgoth sells loads. I€™m curious as to what those sales expectations were, seeing as Square Enix admitted that Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs and Hitman: Absolution all failed to meet their expectations. Their estimations were ridiculous; they presumed Tomb Raider would sell 5 to 6 millions copies in the first month, when it sold 3.6 million, an extremely impressive launch month. Given their ridiculous expectations it seems unlikely a new Legacy of Kain could be launched as a disc-based AAA game. It€™s been 10 years, so it may be unlikely we€™ll see Kain anytime soon in his own single-player RPG but we can long for the day when he makes his triumphant return. Thief€™s making its long-awaited return this year, so nothing is out of the question.
