3. Jak & Daxter
Jak & Daxter, a truly great platformer that hasnt been heard from in 9 years. With great games like Jak & Daxter, Sly Raccoon and Ratchet and Clank, Sony showed their full support for platform games on the PS2. While Ratchet and Clank continued and has had much success on the PS3 and Sly Raccoon finally got a sequel in 2012, it remains to be seen where Jak and Daxter have gone and if theres a future for the duo. Jak & Daxter was one of the most successful PS2 games and the two are still among Sonys most loved characters. We recently seen Jak and Daxter in Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, showing the characters still have a place in the Playstation Universe. Developer Naughty Dog discussed plans for a new title in the series but ultimately dropped those ideas in favour of The Last of Us, something few would complain about. However seeing as Sly Raccoon got a new game last year it isnt impossible we could see Jak and Daxter again someday, though most likely under a new developer. Seeing as Jak & Daxter were created by Naughty Dog, creators of Uncharted and The Last of Us, its understandable that their focus is on bigger and better games. With the coming of the PS3 Naughty Dog shifted their attention from the Jak series and wanted to try their hand at making a AAA title, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. Needless to say how successful that decision turned out to be and seeing as their latest game, The Last of Us has received critical acclaim and has sold better than expected, it seems unlikely theyll take a step backwards to make a platformer. As loved as Jak & Daxter is, and as much as we all want another adventure with the wise-cracking duo, we can probably all respect the fact that Naughty Dog are making some insanely good games and Id rather they continue to push the envelope than go back. However its perfectly reasonable that another developer could take on Jak & Daxter, with creative direction from Naughty Dog if necessary. If I had to guess Id say we havent seen the last of Jak & Daxter but the longer it takes the less likely it becomes.
