8 Dumbest Video Game Decisions With The BEST Rewards

1. Touch Nitro, Get The Purple Gem - Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back

Crash Bandicoot 2
Naughty Dog

One of the ultimate truths of the Crash Bandicoot franchise? Stay the hell away from those twitchy green Nitro crates, right? Get within a whisker of them and you'll be forced to witness everybody's favourite digital marsupial get burned to cinders.

Except, that is, in Crash 2's level "Bee-having." Mid-way through the level, you'll come across a collection of Nitro crates arranged in a stairway formation, but logic being logic, everything should tell you to stay well clear and use a Nitro Switch Crate at the end of the level to detonate them.

But not this time.

Go against everything your gut's telling you, jump onto the Nitro and climb them like a set of stairs, and you'll be transported to the level's bonus area, where you can pick up the Purple Gem.

For masochistic Crash players seeking 100% completion - which without the Purple Gem is impossible - this level was infuriating, given that everything you've ever learned over the course of the series tells you to do anything but touch the Nitro crates.

There is, mercifully, one cheeky giveaway that these crates are harmless, though - unlike every other Nitro crate in the game, they don't bounce and nervously jitter around, instead staying totally still.
