7. Defeating Your First Boss - Balan Wonderworld

Oh Balan Wonderworld....what the ever-loving f*ck is going on with you?

Coming from the mind behind Sonic The Hedgehog and Nights Into Dreams, Balan Wonderworld was touted as a brand new take on the platforming genre. Now in all honesty what that translated to was "Baby's First Mario Odyseyy" seeing as it was basically the later game with all of the charm and indeed technical prowess stripped out of it, however for the most part the title was pretty unoffensive.

The platforming was basic but enjoyable, the graphics unrefined but pleasant, and all seemed par for the course until the player defeats the first boss of the game and is presented with a scene so cringeworthy my skin nearly inverted.

After defeating the first boss, the creature transforms back into the human it once was, this time a farmer, yet before Old McDonald has a chance to thank you, for some unknown reason some J-pop begins to blare, and the protagonist and farmer walk towards each other in a manner so creepy I swear they're about to kiss.

However what follows is somehow even worse, as the pair then begin to dance with all the grace of a Go Animate! feature and to be frank, it made my face look like I'd eaten a whole lemon raw. I hated every moment of this, and spent the next few hours of gameplay dreading it would happen again.

And it did. Many times.

Send help. I am dead.
