8 Gaming Heroes You Didn’t Realise Probably Died Horrible Deaths
4. Roman Bellic - Grand Theft Auto IV
GTA IV remains one of the biggest dividing entries in an otherwise fairly flawless series, mainly due to some extremely weird driving controls, and a constantly-changing protagonist, flipping from one minute trying to escape a life of crime and do his own thing, yet just as eager to help a buddy out by way of ventilating an entire precinct of police officers.
IV managed to take the whacky, overblown nature of San Andreas and flip it on it's head, instead becoming the Michael Mann to San Andreas' Michael Bay (with much less sexism). Although that does divide fans to this day, many still prefer the ridiculous nature of San Andreas, meaning V was a welcome return to form when you were once again allowed to take to the seas and skies in a variety of vehicles.
Come IV's end everything seems to be wrapped up, save for the potential for Roman to snuff it in the final mission anyway, yet regardless of this Niko continues living in the city and player control is returned to you.
Hold on a minute though...
Regardless of your decision to unwittingly spare Roman near the end of the game, Niko's past life continues to catch up to him, and it's only a matter of time before your newfound reputation brought about by torching all and sundry along the way decides to clap Roman too. That's only if Niko doesn't do it himself of course, with Roman's constant pestering for companionship and a trip down the bowling alley every five minutes being enough to send a sane man round the bend, let alone an ex-Russian militant who has trouserful of grenades.
