8 Great Gaming Urban Legends You Probably Missed

5. Earthbound€™s Final Boss Is An Abortion

This may offend some people, and if it does I am sorry, but this is not my opinion, rather it is a very popular theory relating to this game's final boss. According to the theory, the final boss battle in the game Earthbound is literally an abortion so the villain, an alien that wants to destroy the world, will be defeated. In order to destroy the powerful alien Giygas, the main characters travel back in time where Giygas will be €œweaker.€ What is creepy is that when they travel back in time to fight the weaker Giyga, the characterisation for Giyga is based on a foetus. The game€™s creator has not quite confirmed that the final boss battle is an abortion, but he has admitted that the ending of Earthbound was inspired by a movie he accidentally saw as a child called The Military Policeman And The Dismembered Beauty, which left him traumatized, and Earthbound is his attempt to come to terms with this trauma. The last hour of Earthbound is truly disturbing - there's just no other way to describe it. When you reach Giygas, the middle of its lair, The Devil Machine, looks very much like an image of a woman's cervix. The commonly accepted theory is that this confirms the villains weakened status as a foetus, which must be "aborted." So, yeah. This one is you to you guys... But please Don't take my word for it:
"Shigesato Itoi, the game's creator, has said in interviews that he based the Giygas fight on a traumatic childhood experience. He accidentally walked into the wrong theatre at the movies and witnessed a murder scene from the Japanese film The Military Policeman and the Dismembered Beauty. As if that didn't sound horrible enough, Itoi thought he was watching a rape and was deeply affected by it."
