This generation especially we've seen gaming become a mainstream form of entertainment than ever, the popularity of the Wii attracting millions more players to the artform.
However, with greater reach comes the smoothing out of difficulty, and the general notion that at some point, making a game level or boss particularly hard will only ensure your game never gets finished, or worse yet, is traded in for something else.
