8 Hidden Video Game Modes You Never Knew About
5. Classic Maps - Doom (2016)
Any good reboot of a timeless classic is bound to include a good bit of wallowing in the original's glamorous legacy. It's a given.
But that doesn't mean it can't be entertaining or innovative, as the 2016 reboot of Doom deftly shows.
Hidden in each level of the game is a lever, which is not signposted on the map or otherwise hinted at anywhere else in the game. They're unbelievably well-camouflaged within the environments, but if you're eagle-eyed enough to spot one and pull it, a secret room will open up somewhere nearby.
You'll normally have no trouble finding it, as its bright polygonal textures contrast greatly with the modern graphical style of the main game. These rooms are portions of classic levels from Doom, Doom II and Doom 64, and once discovered, will unlock the entire level for you to play through as a 'Classic Map'.
If you ever wondered what playing the original Doom areas with smooth, modern FPS gameplay would be like, well, today is your day. Those levers aren't going to pull themselves, so get snooping in every nook and cranny of the game to find them all!
