One of the interesting things about the survival horror genre is that it trains your brain to look for certain stimuli and teaches it to react in certain ways. For example, it teaches you that long empty corridors are often anything but, and that if you see any item, ANY ITEM AT ALL, that you should hoard it in case it comes in handy further down the line.
