8 Hilariously Broken Games You Won't Believe Were Released

4. Sonic (2006)

03 Sonic Despite his speed, Sonic has always struggled to keep up with Mario of the years. While Sonic Adventure was a decent 3D entrant into the Sonic series, the hedgehog's 3D games were never on a par with the plumber's. Long suffering Sonic fans hoped that a move to next gen at the time would help the series find it's footing in 3D. Instead it lost its footing completely. And flew off the screen into a bottomless pit because the in game camera couldn't keep up. Sonic is known for his speed but speed isn't necessarily a fun toy to play with when camera angles, controls and just about everything else made it impossible to carry out the simplest of tasks. The camera and controls were the main reason that the game was more turkey than hedgehog. Controls at times decided to be unresponsive and almost always at a time when you needed to react to something quickly. If the controls didn't have you pulling your hair out, the camera would have your head looking like Vin Diesel's in no time. I lost count of the times that I flew off the side of a level just trying to run in what looked like a straight line or ended up falling into a pit just trying to perform a simple platform jump. As well as all that, this incarnation of Sonic just didn't feel fast at all and constantly had to slow down to a complete halt to deal with enemies or obstacles. Throw into the mix some horrific loading times and flat out weird glitches and you've got yourself a hedgehog who's 100% road kill. There's also a hub world called Poleanna you can explore and talk to boring people or accept side missions which were also lifeless. They just prolonged the experience, which is the last thing you wanted from this game. Somehow it managed to sully Sonic's reputation even further and messed up things that even the most basic of 3D platformers were managing to do right. While die hard fans of Sonic were no doubt depressed about the road he was taking, the rest of us could only laugh at the sub standard quality of this admittedly rushed game.
