8 Huge Video Game Announcements That Just Leaked Ahead Of E3 2017

Nintendo cancelling the NES Classic Mini felt like one of the most boneheaded moves of the year that didn't happen inside the White House, yet according to Eurogamer's writeup, it's because their mandate was always to give these systems a super-short run cycle.

Why? To keep hype at euphoric levels whenever a new one gets announced, and release one 'mini system' just as a dedicated 'must have' Christmas item, for a specific time period. Nintendo are weird like that. They have enough money to play carrot-on-a-stick with the entire world.

Regardless, Eurogamer's report notes that 2017 will see the release of the SNES Mini this Christmas, assumedly getting the exact same treatment as the NES from 2016. That'll mean a reduced super-cute form factor and a 'greatest hits' of that system's best games.

Thing is, the SNES has one of the finest libraries in gaming history, ranging from Super Mario World to A Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart and a TON more. If/when a Mini SNES happens, expect something like a Black Friday stampede to be a warm-up for what's to come...
