8 Iconic Video Game Franchises That Went Completely Off The Rails
4. Assassin’s Creed
Is there a gamer alive who didn’t enjoy the first and second Assassin’s Creed games unequivocally? Combat may have been a little repetitive and the tailing missions were nightmarishly time consuming, but Ubisoft gave us something truly memorable across those games – so why have they completely lost the plot of what they were doing?
If we can hark back to the closing moments of Assassin’s Creed II; Desmond returns to his own timeline (the modern world), you have a few things to do, and then it’s all over ready for the next sequel. Personally, I couldn't wait for a chance to kick some butt in the 21st Century.
Surely it was time to see how Desmond would've applied the skills he had learned from the past to his own time period? Nope.
It would’ve been far more enjoyable, if only for a single title, to play as Desmond, and until they randomly killed him off in AC III, felt as though that was the natural progression of the franchise up to that point.
It’s been six games since we were last allowed to truly play as Desmond in his own time, and with rumours abounding Ubisoft are rebooting the series in 2017, surely they're not going to abandon this idea altogether, Desmond or not?
