8 Imposing Video Game Bosses (That Secretly Suck)

1. Zant - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Disappointment. This is probably the best word to describe the final encounter with Zant at the end of Twilight Princess, as this is a villain who has proclaimed himself "The King Of Twilight", taken over nearly all of Hyrule and is an incredibly powerful wizard to boot thanks to his benefactor from beyond.

Throughout the game he's presented as an unstoppable and infallible evil. Calm and composed, his words strike fear within the player because of their incredibly direct intent, and yet when you finally come to face him... well he's kind of a joke.

Suddenly showcasing a complete character change, Zant's calm demeanor erupts into childish rants, tantrums and a level of mania that is so shocking that it's hard to take him seriously as a credible threat, and it's all done to move the focus off of him and onto Ganondorf who is of course the main evil in this game.

I totally get what the devs were trying to achieve by setting up Zant only for him to reveal himself as a glorified lackey but it meant that the final battle with him was a bit of a farce, with the player taking on a boss going through the "terrible twos" stage of life. It's a shame because up until this point Zant was an effective villain, but here he's more Saturday morning cartoon.
