8 Insane Video Game Secrets That Made You Say WHAT?!

4. Percentages Mean Nothing - XCOM

I'm not going to lie to you, this next entry is both personal and painful.

When it comes to the XCOM series, the concept of what is "fair" is not something the game understands, or at the very least, does understand, but chooses to ignore.

You will see enemies pop up out of nowhere, blast your team to oblivion with superior weaponry, ambush your base, drain your resources and otherwise just make you look an utter fool, to such an extent that if this game came with a developers commentary soundtrack it would be just them laughing at you hysterically for hours at a time.

However, something much less funny are the so called "chance to hit percentages" that the game touts each and every time you take aim at little grey men and try to turn them into massive red mists, as while you might be told you have a 100% chance to hit, the reality of the situation is much less certain.

Turns out that that according to the lead designers of XCOM 2, the percentages are mere "guidelines" that don't actually reflect your statistical chance to hit, and in many cases are inflated or deflated according to the difficulty you're playing on.

This means that it's very possible to miss a 100% chance to hit shot because the game actually reads it as 90% to hit on harder settings.

WHAT?!
