8 Insanely Different Versions Of The SAME Video Game
3. XIII - Exclusive Multiplayer Modes
Ever since Goldeneye basically performed the biggest Mic Drop possible with its insane multiplayer offering, other FPS titles have been scrambling ever since to try and replicate even a fraction of its creativity and fun. Some found their own success, others settled into just one mode and drilled down hard, and then we have the strange case of the almighty comic-caper XIII.
For some reason, XIII decided that the best way to approach the concept of multiplayer, which if correctly handled can elevate even a mediocre game into the halls of couch party sessions, was to create multiplayer modes that were EXCLUSIVE to each console it dropped on, namely PS2, Original Xbox, and Gamecube.
Now while this doesn't affect the core gameplay on each console, it has huge ramifications for the longevity of the title, especially for the Gamecube which didn't support online modes. Why not give the little purple blob all three modes to make up for it? As a result, the Xbox and PC versions stormed ahead of the competition thanks to higher player caps and arguably better modes, leaving the PS2 and GC fanbase lamenting at a choice that was made for them.
