8 More New Game Plus Modes That Change EVERYTHING

3. Eternal Darkness

Oh Eternal Darkness, of course, you're going to mess with the very concept of New Game + seeing as it's a title that basically makes a mockery of every other video game trope going.

Alongside all the visual and gameplay twisting effects this game implements to an expert degree, Eternal Darkness also hides its true ending behind three full completions of the main game.

However, it's not as simple as blasting through the title over and over, as the true ending can only be unlocked if you choose to commit to one of the three in game alignments fully in each playthrough, each of which changes how the game plays and how your character approaches combat.

Therefore despite you going through the same story beats, you're doing so in completely different ways, escalating the challenge each time as you push further down a single path.

It's a great means of rewarding committed players while also offering them fresh experiences throughout. You don't mess with gamers' minds this much without being smart yourself, which the devs of Eternal Darkness clearly were.
