8. Resident Evil 4 - Don't Shoot The Water

Like most entries in the franchise, Resident Evil 4 is absolutely packed with tongue-in-cheek secrets for the most die-hard players to find. Perhaps the most startling one, though, comes just before you begin a battle against a huge fish-monster with only a couple of harpoons in your arsenal.

If you're playing one of the later versions of the title you may have noticed an achievement called "Don't Shoot The Water" and, being the curious gamers you are, it resulted in you no doubt opening fire when you came across a large lake in the opening act.

If you did, after a few seconds you'd be treated to the monster jumping out the water prematurely, dragging you down to the depths of its lair.

A lot of secret game over screens try to make you laugh, but very few set out to terrify you. For better or worse, Resi 4 accomplishes just that.
