8 More Video Game Difficulty Levels For The Criminally Insane

6. The Evil Within - Akumu Mode

The Evil Within loves it’s difficulty modes and it was a toss up between the Akumu Mode and The Darkness mode seeing as both are absolutely nails to try and beat. To give some context, Darkness mode (or Kurayami Mode as it’s known in the game) is the same difficulty as the second hardest mode Nightmare, but with the lovely addition of, well that should be subtraction of, light itself.

Now in order to get around with relative safety the player has to use a flashlight at nearly all times, and as we all remember from our horror studies, it’s what you can’t see that is usually the most terrifying thing. So have fun with that.

However in terms of sheer brutality I have to pick Akumu mode for this entry because that scales the difficulty up to almost ridiculous levels. And by this I mean that the player dies in ONE HIT from ANYTHING outside of a cutscene or scripted event! And if this wasn’t mean spirited enough, there’s next to no ammo drops and you only get a few drops of green gel in the entire game.

The gel is especially important for a run because it’s what upgrades your weapons, so the combination of running dry of this while at the same time soaking your pants in piss is not something I would wish on anyone.
