8 More Video Games Better Than The Movie They're Based On
5. The Mummy Demastered
Let's face facts: The 2017 Mummy starring Tom Cruise was an absolute bomb. In fact, to call it a "bomb" implies it had any impact whatsoever.
This was like a mild scattering of wet confetti around the back of a Tescos with each of the pieces sporting a little sad face emoji on them.
Things started off poorly with a trailer being released online with a missing audio track, meaning all we could hear was Cruises grunts and groans, something that would be echoed by audiences upon watching the final product as this was utterly woeful. It was clear that, much like DC had found out prior, rushing towards an ensemble movie in order to launch a cinematic universe was only ever going to end in disaster, yet unlike DC who had the strength of their characters pulling things back into place, this Horror cinematic universe had....er....Tom Cruise chewing scenery and running away from bad-looking CGI monsters.
Cool.
However, while things were looking pretty dire on the film front, the Mummy Demastered, which was released alongside the film was truly excellent! A Metroidvania experience through and through this game looked as beautiful as it was brutal, but the best feature by far was the fact that when you died, your body would become possessed, meaning you'd need to dispatch this shambling corpse in order to get back your loot.
This coupled with some exceptional level design meant that while the film equivalent was drowning, The Mummy Demastered was riding a huge wave of critical and commercial acclaim.
