8 More Video Games Better Than The Movie They're Based On

4. The Warriors

I absolutely love the film The Warriors.

It is a cult classic that most definitely lives up to the second part of that label, offering up vibrant and over the top gangs, a ruthlessly simple plot of "get home without being battered" (something that those who live in Gateshead can feel seen by), and of course the endlessly quotable lines of dialogue.

It's ridiculous and I loved it.

Therefore I, alongside many others was absolutely sent into a spin when it was announced that Rockstar of all people was going to be making a video game adaptation of The Warriors decades after the film's release. And you know what? It was absolutely stunning. It captured the magic of the film immediately, presenting a rough and gritty aesthetic that was backed up with hard-hitting and tooth-rattling combat.

Yet, its most surprising touch of brilliance was that the game actually gave us a prequel tale informing players on how The Warriors got started as they split from and then defeated The Destroyers.

It could have been a throwaway prologue, but it actually built on the characters in such a way that it elevated the IP as a whole. Add in a tonne of brilliant recreations of the film itself and an exceptionally fun two-player co-op and you have a game that built on the legacy of the film in all the best ways.
