2. The Joker and Harley Quinn - Batman Arkham Series
This is going to seem a bit bizarre. Firstly, the two characters in this example are both computer controlled- so why bother? Secondly, the game is actually basing the relationship off a TV series as well as a comic book series (and yes, Harley first appeared in the cartoon series before DC took her into the comic book world). So why bother with these two in this list? For the simple reason that I think that this is a relationship that is incredibly well structured and told throughout the two games. If one was to take the simple out and out dialogue between the two, one would see the relationship as a fairly dull Bonnie and Clyde knock off. What the game does incredibly well therefore is make this couple compelling by introducing a dark aura around them. These can be seen with the tapes in the first game when Harley is first introduced to the Joker to the point when Joker tempts her with secrets until she falls too far down the rabbit hole to the thug in Arkham City who imitates Harley's slavering loyalty to the Joker despite his...erratic moods. Is it a healthy romance? Hell no, but it is one that sticks in the memory and for that reason it is on this list.
