8. Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance - Half Life 2 And Chapters
It's a difficult thing having a relationship with a mute, but Alyx Vance seems to manage by the end of Half Life 2's series of games- or at least is getting close to it. Since the point of having Freeman as a mute was that the player could connect more directly with the game on an immerse level, it is difficult to see exactly how this relationship will actually work should they officially get together. Having said that, like many on the list, if it is not an official relationship yet, it may as well be, with many in the video game community applauding the way that their friendship seems to be getting closer. It will be interesting how the next game deals with this conundrum for their is no doubt that the idea of a Gordon/Alyx relationship appeals, but to give Gordon a voice to talk with would go against much that made Half Life the unique experience it has always been. Though the next game may not be coming for a while, there is little doubt that this is one of the questions at the forefront of gamers minds (along with can we use the Portal Guns?).
