8 One Shot Kill Weapons That Fail At Their Job

1. Tau Cannon - Half-Life

Red Dea Redemption Undead Nightmare
Valve

And finally, we have Half-Life's beloved Tau Cannon, and in complete fairness to Valve, they certainly warned players of its volatile nature ahead of time.

Moments before you pick the weapon up for yourself, you can hear a scientist warn a soldier about its unpredictable nature, imploring him not to overcharge it just as it explosively discharges, killing them both.

The Tau Cannon's secondary mode lets players fire an extremely powerful charged beam which will swiftly kill most enemies in the game. Hell, it's even capable of taking a helicopter down in one hit.

However, players should heed the late scientist's caution - if you continue to charge the cannon for 10 seconds, it'll explode in your very hands, dealing 50 damage and, depending on your circumstances, possibly killing you instantly.

It's easy to get carried away with charging the cannon due to its badass charging sound and the sheer excitement of knowing the damage it's about to deal, ensuring the prospect of user error is extremely high.
