8 PC Wrestling Games Only True Fans Will Remember

7. Championship Wrestling

Sgt Slaughters Mat Wars 2
Epyx

Championship Wrestling was originally released by Epyx Games in 1986. A few years earlier Epyx had found success in creating licensed Barbie and Hot Wheels games for Mattel. Epyx was hoping to make a similar agreement with the WWF, though for unknown reasons this deal never went through. Perhaps if Mattel had a business relationship with the then WWF like they do with present day WWE, the deal may have materialized. Unfortunately for Epyx, they would have to settle for a roster of generics and knockoffs.

Players would select one of eight WWF analogues including Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior look-a-likes to compete in a championship tournament. Boasting a then impressive library of 25 different moves, this arcade style outing was well-received by trade publications. Though the monotonous game play would probably bore modern gamers to sleep faster than a Great Khali main event today, in 1986 Championship Wrestling proved that wrestling games for the home computer were a viable enterprise after all.
