Modern Warfare already looks to be dragging the series back to its roots, but it's still worth echoing that Call Of Duty really needs to take a moment and think about what it wants to be.

Losing steam over the years due to its lack of focus, the franchise has been to space, into the future and everywhere in between.

Sure, it added some new aspects to a game that hasn't significantly changed in over a decade, but these were changes that altered the franchise's core identity. When Call Of Duty made its name, it was a down and dirty shooter that transported players to gritty warzones full of fast gameplay and authentic weaponry.

Exo-suits and space guns are one thing, but players always respected Call Of Duty for strapping them into the role of a modern soldier in a genuine battlefield. No bells and whistles; just fun, fast gameplay over a selection of strong maps in a variety of locations.

There's still life in Call Of Duty and an eager fanbase that are willing to give it another shot, but the series has got to embrace its roots and bring back its grounded nature if they want a second wind.
