8 Random Video Game Enemies Harder Than Any Boss Battle

7. Parasites - Alien Swarm

If you like your twin-stick shooters then you're going to absolutely love Alien Swarm, a title that dropped way back in 2010 but is now receiving a bit of a resurgence thanks to its brilliantly tight and tense gameplay.

As a team of up to four your goal is to simply survive against a horde of alien foes, I mean technically there are other missions and objectives to complete but survival will most definitely be your overriding goal as some of even the regular enemies are ridiculously tough.

And yet, of all the gruesome and multi-limbed monstrosities you'll face, one of the most unassuming can end up being the most dangerous. I'm speaking of course about the Parasites which crop up in huge numbers across the playthrough, always at the worst time possible (which according to my watch is ANY TIME).

What makes them so utterly deadly is the fact that they are small and lithe enough to avoid most regular gunfire and should they so much as touch your marine, will infest them and begin draining their health. It's here you're faced with two choices, either let your friend die an agonizing death (more on that in a moment) or use a precious and scarce healing kit to remove the parasite.

Now here's the thing, the latter option is a chore because Medic resources are always in short supply and the Marine is likely to be re-infected seeing as the Parasites travel in packs, but the former option is even worse because A, your friend is dead (sorry about that mate) and B, now explodes into four more parasites which will likely infect the rest of the team.

This is less about being stuck between a rock and a hard place and two industrial blenders that have their settings glued to frappé.
