8 Reasons Even Hardcore Fans Are Giving Up On Assassin's Creed

8. No One Believes Ubisoft's PR Bullsh*t Any More

Damage control following Unity was always going to be something only some sort of messianic PR-spinning whizz could fix, and sadly such a figure just doesn't reside within Ubisoft. One good move was getting out in front of the complaints this year and admitting they messed up, but following that, May's behind the scenes interview-filled doc with the developers had just as much overblown rhetoric as always, and it's just impossible to take that seriously. Lines like "It's a completely new kind of Assassin's Creed" that come after we've seen some terribly animated fight scenes and traversal that still lacks the necessary polish to make you feel comfortable doing so, are tantamount to lying to your fanbase. Instead of trying to convince us what we're going to be buying is the be-all, end-all of AC games, why not double-down on the positives of the past? Embrace the fact that at their core, these are fantastic titles, brought to life by one of the best art teams in the business. If you're going to insist on an annual release schedule then reveal it as such, with a focus on incremental upgrades and refinements to a solid core experience, essentially like what sports titles do. Without that approach we're left wondering how they can say things like the above statement and still keep a straight face, as if you're going to try and sell 'a whole new way to play' then let's see it. Even the behind the scenes video in question shows Jacob climbing a structure in exactly the same way as years gone by, just as the programmer is describing how they're "transforming" the experience. It's getting beyond a joke.
