8 Reasons Even Hardcore Fans Are Giving Up On Assassin's Creed

6. You Know Straight Away Exactly How Everything Is Going To Play

From the first look at Unity last year to finally seeing Syndicate in-engine back in May, anyone who'd played any of the many previous instalments could take one look at the likes of Arno Dorian or Jacob Frye and essentially imagine themselves moving them through the environment. The overall 'feel' of an AC game is almost part of the cultural mindset at this point, even if its on a more subconscious level, we all know how much you need to push the stick to make the character move, how rewarding (or rote) holding a trigger and a face button to climb is - and how messy the combat has become. Syndicate's gameplay demo was the complete embodiment of 'more of the same' in everything from gruff, mysterious protagonists to the animation controlling them - and when the big gameplay innovation is a mix of cart-racing (something that at best, can't top Red Dead Redemption's) and a grappling hook (which the Arkham games did far better six years ago) it comes together in a really off-putting way for both newcomers and especially long-time fans.
