8 Reasons Wolfenstein II Is Better Than Call Of Duty: WW2
8. Consistently Stellar Graphics & Presentation
Weirdly, despite the new COD looking borderline photo-real in spots (mainly its facial animations and the occasional time a set of characters moving through the world will trick your brain into thinking you're watching a movie), its explosions and smoke/debris effects can be right out of 2005.
Blurry, pixellated and looking like they need another texture pass to pop in, very frequently if you're anywhere close to a grenade going off or battling your way up a hill as mud gets kicked up, it's jarring just how much these things take away from the otherwise stellar presentation.
On Wolfenstein's side, all aspects are perfect. Running at a butter-smooth 60fps (just like DOOM from last year), everything from the reflections cast by crackling Nazi robots being ripped apart by projectiles to chunks of bodies strewn across the roof doesn't dip performance for a second.
You can arm up with twin triple-barrel shotguns and wade into groups of Nazis, ventilating handfuls at a time and the game will simply keep up. Smoke and fire effects look stunning, character models and claret punch out of the background in a definable way, and the levels themselves are all hyper-detailed to depict a version of 1960s America under control of the Third Reich.
