8 Ridiculous Video Game Plotholes We Love Anyway

1. Scott Shelby's Inner Thoughts - Heavy Rain

Wolfenstein The New Order

Heavy Rain was widely criticised on launch for its manipulative, even dishonest approach to its big plot twist, that the Origami Killer is actually one of the game's central characters, private detective Scott Shelby.

The big issue is that, considering we're privy to the thoughts of each playable character during the game, it makes no damn sense at all that we're able to control Scott and investigate the Origami Killer's crimes as though we're not the killer ourselves.

And then there's the infamous scene at the antique shop, where the Origami Killer strikes while we're controlling Shelby. How does this work? The truth is, it doesn't.

But it was much easier to be angry about this in 2010. 15 years removed from Heavy Rain's release, where its reputation has morphed from a gritty cinematic thriller into a campy slice of choose-your-own-adventure kitsch, it's far easier to roll with the silliness of its twist, especially on repeat playthroughs.

It's an entertaining game packed to the gills with odd creative quirks - David Cage-isms, you might say - and this is just another one of them. It's stupid, but it just wouldn't be Heavy Rain without a contrived, Telenovela-worthy clunker of a final twist.
