Generally speaking, there were two broad outcomes to Maniac Mansion: either the sentient meteor the story centres on is arrested by an intergalactic police force, or it escapes (and gets a book deal in one variation).

Not every fan will know this, but it was possible to combine elements of these two endings if you played your cards right. This required playing as Wendy and Bernard - the latter of whom went on to head up the game's better-known sequel Day of the Tentacle - as it's the former who gives the book publishing contract to the meteor.

This act alone is enough to trigger the game's 'talk show' ending, which reveals that the animated rock turned his back on his evil ways to enjoy life as a famous author, but if you used Bernard to call the Meteor Police before handing over the contract, a secret alternative ending was unlocked.

In this conclusion, the meteor appears on the chat show as usual, only for the police to arrest him live on air.
