8 Star Wars Video Game Franchises EA Should Reboot

5. Republic Commando

Republic Commando

Did you ever have the pleasure of shepherding Delta-38 and his elite squad of Clone Troopers through their eponymous war with the Separatists in Republic Commando? If yes, you're one of the few that happened upon LucasArts' first crack at the squad-based shooter genre. For everyone else, the poor timing of its release likely means you never knew it existed, and that's a damn shame.

Like so much of LucasArts' best work, Republic Commando did away with Force powers and lightsaber duels in favour of exploring its Galaxy Far, Far Away through the scopes and visors of Kamino's mass-produced clone army, facilitating its strategic focus with a solid contextual-based command system. A.I. teammates could be called upon to utilize their proficiencies - sharpshooter, demolitions expert, etc. - in order to tackle each objective as you saw fit, all the while nurturing a sense of camaraderie between you and your genetically identical comrades.

Sounds like a series ripe for adoption by a certain EA-owned developer, does it not? If any storied shmup creator knows how best to make a good squad-based shooter, it's DICE. Battlefront's reputation might be in tatters, but the cause has never been a lack of good gameplay. Give that franchise a rest and give a DICE-made Republic Commando sequel the greenlight, won't you?
