8 Stealth Video Games Where Stealth SUCKS
7. Thief (2014)
2014's reboot of all-timer stealth franchise Thief is one of the most aggressively "ehhh" video games there ever has been - a meat-and-potatoes stealth game that's generically efficient and totally uninspired.
With the Thief franchise being so heralded, that's obviously not good enough; the ingenious level design of the prior games substituted for a more casualised, streamlined experience clearly intended to make the Thief IP appealing to a broader swath of players.
Thief 2014 is a far more linear game than its predecessors, opting for basic, simplistic level layouts and giving players fewer options for navigating said environments. In addition to that, enemy AI is almost pantomime-level stupid, ensuring there's little satisfaction to be gained in all but the least-skilled of players making it through a level unscathed.
Eidos-Montréal succeeded in making a Thief game for the lowest common denominator, but in turn alienated just about everyone who made the series popular in the first place. And so to the surprise of no-one, it didn't sell enough to justify a sequel.
