8 Strangest Examples Of Censorship In Video Games
6. Command And Conquer: Generals
Germany have a real obsession with gaming censorship. They're sort of like that one guy we all know who actively goes out of their way to get offended at everything because they're such a special little snowflake. If it's not Nazis and swastikas, it's violence and nudity. It's like the German government has something against the concept of fun.
To get past Germany's ban on anything too violent, several developers have taken to "robotifying" the characters to get their games released. This is literally exactly what it sounds like, converting all human characters into robots in a bid to avoid any of the moral or graphic implications in murdering people.
Fake people, that is. Now we're just killing fake robots instead, makes complete sense. Valve is apparently a big fan of this practice, as they've robotised Team Fortress 2 and Half Life 1.
The absolute strangest of these has to be Command and Conquer: Generals. You see, as well as converting all the general's into hilariously goofy androids, all of the units in the game are also converted into robots. This gets especially brow-raising once you realise the suicide bomber unit has been changed to a literal barrel of explosives on wheels.
